Hello !

For the management of anger, there are 3 behavioural response - Control, Outburst, Withdrawal. I think I belong to the withdrawal category. I would always walk away from a situation to calm myself down as I believe that outburst will not solve the problem at all. I would always try to analyse the situation and see what have I done wrong. After a certain period, I will try talking to the other party and telling he/she what I feel about him. The last time I felt really angry was in my secondary school. I fell out with my best friend. It was a Saturday. I went out with her to town to search for our graduation gowns. I saw this very unique dress and immediately I called her to take a look at it. The moment she saw the dress, she also fell in love with it. This is when she took the dress away from me and went to the changing room. She didn't even ask me if I want to try it on. She tried the dress on and it wasn't as nice as she thought it would be as all of us thought that the dress makes her look short. So, she changed out of the dress and she just simply gave her dress to the shop tender. This is not the first time. I got really disappointed with her. I wasn't exactly angry with her until the next day which is a Monday. We're supposed to sit in our register number in class due to the post-exam period. She was number 16 and I am number 17. When I went into the class, I realised that my seat was taken up by her as there was a confusion of seats then. I went up to her and ask her if she got the wrong seat. She told me that her seat was also taken up by others and she just continue sitting comfortably at my seat. She doesn't even bother to help me find an empty seat. I was really pissed off then as the whole class was looking at the both of us. I didn't talk to her for the whole day and that is how we fell out with each other. We didn't talk to each other for quite a long while already. Now, when she saw me in NP, she will say hi to me but giving that reluctant look on her face.

I think I didn't manage my anger that well in the case above as I didn't talk to her after the incident. I didn't express what I thought about her then as I was afraid of the awkward situation we will be in when I approached her. She also didn't approach to talk to me after the incident. I know that I was angry at her and after serious thought, I think that she should be the one apologising to me as she is the overall cause of us falling out. But whatever it is, I still regret not talking to her after the incident as it is crucial for our survival for our friendship.

Anyway, fear management is another topic that I have learnt from this module. I am scared of heights. Remember when I was in secondary school I went for the secondary 2 camp. It is an adventure camp and it involves a lot of activities I am afraid such as rock climbing and the flying fox etc. I was afraid of attempting the obstacles as I am scared of heights. However, we are supposed to attempt at least once for each activity. Thus, I would have to overcome my fear in that short 5 minutes. It is actually a good thing as this made me able to overcome my fear. After several tries, I actually enjoyed the trill being high up above the ground. This is when I experienced the joy of overcoming my fear. When I am fear of certain things, my hands will become cold and my legs will turn wobbly.

There are certain ways in which I can overcome my other fears I had. Everyone has fear and the reason why we need to overcome our fear is to enrich our lives so that we're more daring to make a change in ourselves. Some of the useful steps I would take in the future would be visualisation of myself doing a certain thing that I fear the most such as performing on the stage. This will inspire me and will also calm me down so that I wouldn't be nervous on the stage.

In the nutshell, Life Management Skills makes me learn those life-long skills that are beneficial for my future. It is a part and parcel of my life. I believe I will need it in every aspect of my life. I am glad that I took this module as I have learnt a lot. Thus, I can definitely say that I have learnt some skills from the tutor.

Hello !

Through this module of Life Management Skills, I'd learnt how to enhance self-awareness and self-esteem, how to manage time and priority, understanding ourselves, how to manage anger and ways to cope with fear. This is an enriching module for me and I think it is useful and applicable to my everyday life. In my previous post, I had elaborated on the importance of self-awareness and self-esteem. I realised that the level of one's self-awareness and self-esteem very much depends on one's friends.

In my case, I feel blessed that I have a bunch of wonderful friends to support me whenever I am feeling down and depressed. They respect my opinions and suggestions. I remember once when I was in secondary school, my friends accidentally took an unglam picture of me. Being mischievous, they printed out the picture and put it at the back of our classroom's door. I saw that picture when our Mathematics teacher closed the door. The whole class saw the picture of mine and they were laughing at the picture. I got so embarrassed and I felt insulted. Immediately, I went out of the class and cried. This is when my friends came and comfort me. This increased my self-esteem and I realised that I took the picture too hard as I was very concern about my image then. I also learnt from them to be more open towards the others. After I took up this Life Management Skills module, I realised that I was a scarecrow as I doesn't trust my own uniqueness and will only know that by following the trend, I will be able to blend into the rest. It was my friends who persuaded me to go for a change. Initially, I was reluctant to change. I know they meant me good. So, i decided to give myself a chance to change. Thus, I must really thank my friends for making my life so colourful.

Time management is an important part of my life as I have a lot of commitments such as ballet, piano, cca, and most importantly my academic work. I aimed to go to a local University. Thus, I had to work very hard. It is especially tough when there is an on-coming competition for my dancesport cca. That is why time management is very important for me. Up till now, I guess I'm doing fine as I am satisfied with my academic performance. However, I think I need to improve on one issue though. It is to overcoming procrastination. I must try to complete my work and tutorials for the day at night from now on so that I would not panic when the deadlines are drawing closer.

To be able to understand more about myself, I need to have a good listening skills as it allows the reader to reach out to the listener. Through the process, both parties will master the ability to focus and maintain attention in the "understanding" process. I still remember the time when I'm a company leader of Girl Guides. I used to be very afraid of public speaking. One of the responses I fear from my audiences is their unwillingness to pay attention to me. That is why I would always like to keep my speech short so that they would not divert their attention to their surroundings. I also realised that being the speaker, he/she should not be distracted by their surroundings also. This is because more often than not, the listeners are always looking at the posture of the speakers. So, if the speaker was to look elsewhere while talking to them, they would also be distracted.
There are several ways for the listeners to express their reluctantness to listen to what the speaker is speaking. Some of which would be putting their heads down, looking at other places other than looking at the speaker and giving short replies to the questions of the speaker. Sometimes when i talk to my friend, she would be spacing out. This shows that she is not interested in the topic that I'm at. On the other hand, when one is really listening to you, he/she will not be distracted by the external environment and she will have the eagerness to ask lots of questions. This is an example of a good listener.

Hello there!

To start things off, let me introduce myself. I'm Sherlyn from Business Studies. I'm previously from Whitley Secondary School. I like to dance and i am currently learning ballet. I think dance had created a big impact on me. It boost my self-esteem up and I'm now more confident to interact with others.

As some may wonder - what exactly is self-esteem and why do we need to have self-esteem? In simpler terms, self-esteem actually reflects a person's overall self-appraisal of their own worth. So why is it important to have high self-esteem? Without high self-esteem, we will not be able to realize our full potential. This is because the fundamental human need is 'Before you can accept yourself, you will need to see that others accept you'.

To a large extent, our knowledge of who we are comes from the feedback we gain from others. Nonetheless, don't be afraid to ask others of their opinions about you as you will need to know your weaknesses and strengths so that you will be able to make a change for the better.

Personally, i believe that it is important to have a high self-esteem. To be able to do this, you'll have to believe in yourself and be firm of what you think is right. However, do accept comments made by others on our performance as it may be beneficial to us.
